Dinner with the Family
By Jean Anouilh
Directed by Edward Newborn

A darkly comic look at family, hypocrisy and appearances. When a young man falls for the maid, his wealthy parents scramble to protect their reputation, exposing their vanity and moral decay. Clever, cutting and full of bite, Dinner With The Family lays bare the rot beneath respectability.

This plays needs a varied cast of male and female actors across a range of ages...

Georges Delachaume Male - mid 20-30s : The protagonist. A charming, cynical young man who is married for money to a hysterical woman. He is seeking an escape from his parasitic existence and has fallen in love with Isabelle, representing purity and simplicity.

Isabelle Female - mid 20s-30s : The woman Georges loves. She is quiet, kind-hearted, and honest, contrasting sharply with the sophisticated, corrupt world Georges inhabits.
Delmonte  Male 50-70s / Madame de Montrachet Female 50-70s : Actors hired by Georges to play his loving, "decent" parents for one night. They are initially unaware of the true, sordid nature of the family they are portraying 50-70s
Jacques Male 20-30s : Georges’ worthless, sponging "friend" who lives off of Georges' wealth. He serves as an antagonistic force, eager to destroy Georges’ chance at a new life.
Barbara Female 30-40s : Jacques’ wife. Similar to her husband, she is a parasite living off Georges and tries to bring him back to their lifestyle.
Mme. Delachaume Female - 50-60s : Georges’ real mother. She is depicted as materialistic and corrupt, contributing to the squalor from which Georges wants to escape.
M. Delachaume Male - 50-60s : Georges’ real father. Like his wife, he is a parasite,  "worthless," and dependent on Georges’ marriage.
The Proprietress Female - 70s : The owner of the mansion rented for the dinner party.
Emile Male 50s (French accent) :  Self assured career butler hired by Georges for the party. 50ish
Esme  Female 20s : Maid to Christine, Georges wife. Down to earth and a straight shooter.
