About the classes:
Tutor John Goudge has been running classes at Titirangi Theatre since 1999. In that time hundreds of students have come through his programme. It concentrates on real theatre skills, including voice and body work, characterisation, imagination, improvisation, and team work.
Each year audiences are impressed with the slick and entertaining plays put on at the students’ major production.
In 2026 there are so many wanting to join, John is having to run auditions. He’s looking for students with enthusiasm and commitment.
Classes are of longer duration this coming year, allowing students more time to contribute their own ideas, and take responsibility in guiding the programme.

Why choose Titirangi Theatre classes?
* Class numbers are restricted to 12 maximum.
* Classes are supported by a real theatre.
* Course fees are reasonable compared to other drama schools.
* John is very experienced, stands behind his students & does not sub-contract to other tutors.
* Classes tap into the self-expression of students, using their ideas to create scenes.
* Theatre etiquite, showing up on time, doing your homework, developing a ‘say yes’ attitude, & respecting others is part of the course.
Titirangi Theatre is a great place to belong. It gives opportunities on or off stage, or as audience members. Actor trainees get a chance to be part of the theatre, including trips to plays (when appropriate).

What others say about John’s acting courses --
- My daughter has been taking classes with John for about two and a half years. During that time, I have really seen her develop, not only in terms of her acting, but in her self-confidence as well. I believe that her having the opportunity to meet those challenges has helped her be more outgoing in all areas of her life. Without hesitation, I would recommend this class to any young person.
- John makes you believe you can do great things no matter where your starting point is.
- In his classes, John combines intelligence with deep understanding of the human nature. He's got vast knowledge & expertise combined with decades of experience. What makes him an outstanding teacher, is his uncompromising love & passion for drama. John's classes are fun, dynamic, innovative & appropriately challenging.

- John genuinely cares about his students. His passion, knowledge & dedication to his craft is inspirational. I love his no-nonsense approach. He has a way of addressing students' individual needs by giving constructive criticism in encouraging & perceptive ways.

John’s experience
As a tutor since 1995, hundreds of children (and adults) have completed John Goudge’s courses at Titirangi Theatre, or at Rimu Glade Studio, his own drama and music studio in Oratia.
He is invited into schools and theatres to run workshops or direct shows. He has been an actor or director for Titirangi Theatre many times.
As a working actor, musician, and theatre director, John has a well-rounded perspective on performance arts. In 2025 he was awarded a life-membership of Titirangi Theatre.
His one-person show, The John Show, earned him an “Honourable Mention” at the 2022 Auckland Fringe. He is a kaiarahi for Pitt St Theatre in Auckland City, and a tutor of disabled actors at the Interact Disability Arts Trust, A Supported Life, and Ranfurly Care.
John often writes scripts for or with his Titirangi students, including the sell-out shows Wolf Art Camp (2023), Dramatic Differences (2024), & Fantasy Dates (2025).

Total fees for all three terms: Youth Drama School - $500.
All fees are due in full in advance unless otherwise arranged. (Ask John for terms and conditions.) There are no hidden performance costs, other than purchase of audience tickets for our September show ($15/$10).
